Hi there - I hope you all are having a great weekend! Some goodies arrived in the mail yesterday and I thought I'd share. I needed to replace a few things in my bridal kit...here's the damage:
MAC Brush Cleanser
DUO Lash Adhesive in Dark (dries black)
MAC Eyeshadow in Brown Script
MAC Eyeshadow in Cork
Here is a close up of the eyeshadows - perfect matte eyeshadows for brides who want a natural look:
I'll do a look using both of these soon - one on older tan skin and another on younger dark skin.
In other news, tomorrow is practice day. I have a cultural themed shoot coming up at the end of the week and I want to test out two looks I have in mind. I'll post pics of the trial run!
Are you shocked? You shouldn't be. Everytime I try to get away from MAC, the release more MSFs. Curse them! Alas, here they are:
As far as texture - the smooth ones have a soft BBR/MSF feel while the others have that Global Glow texture. I can't speak to Porcelain Pink since the one I have is from the first release. So the question is - do YOU need these? I collect them, I have no choice. HOWEVER, if I step back and look though the lenses of logic - NOPE. The only ones I'd fully recommend are Warm Blend and Sunny By Nature...everything else is very "meh."
MAC Sugarsweet: Perfect Topping and Refined MSFs Topic: MAC and MSFs
It is no secret that I love MSFs, love them like mommies love babies. So when the UPS truck pulled up earlier today, I was absolutely giddy. I was so eager that I actually snapped the casing of my box cutter to open the little black MAC box. The two new MSFs (Mineralized Skin Finishes) are absolutely beautiful in the pan. Check 'em out:
Cute, right? I know! Then...I swatched them...and my heart broke. Oh MAC, why do you do this? Something so promising became something outrageously lame:
They are shamefully blah! I mean, c'mon man. To be fair, they will make wonderful highlighters, but I need more highlighters like I need a hole in the head. Also, don't they look very similar, not only to each other, but to other recently released MSFs? I decided to sheer it out to show the subtle differences.
See the differences?
Yeah, me neither.
Only when applied very heavily do the differences begin to show:
So do you need both? Nope, only if you collect them as I do. Do you need either of them? Maybe, but don't let these be the first MSFs you try.
Last week, I went though each and every MAC collection from now through early Summer. I'm not seeing so many Must Have items. If you think I'm missing out on the best.new.thing.ever please let me know, but for now, here's what I'm getting:
3/2 - Hello Kitty - NOTHING
3/5 - Hello Kitty Koutoure - NOTHING
3/12 - Grand Duos - NOTHING
3/19 - Sugar Sweet - Perfect Topping MSF and Refined MSF - Ok IF (and this is a big IF) Tippy Blush is still around, I may get it to make the shipping costs worth it. I won't be heartbroken if its sold out though.
4/2 - Color Ready - NOTHING
4/23 - Rose Romance - Summer Rose Beauty Powder (maybe)
4/30 - Double Dazzle - NOTHING (so far I've only loved 1 Dazzleglass l/g)
5/28 - Style Warriors - On A Mission Beauty Powder Blush
6/11 - Naked Honey - NOTHING
So yeah, this is a far cry from what my purchases would have been last year. I'm really trying though to only buy things I know I'll love 100% rather than buying something just because its LE. Again, feel free to talk me down - let me know if you think I'll regret not getting something.
Hiyas - I thought I'd update you on how my New Year's Resolution is turning out. The whole idea behind it was to use up some of my makeup stash. The flip side is that because of my new position, I'm unable to use nearly half of my collection because the colors are simply too bright. Also, as I get older, I'm finding that I'm falling more and more in love with neutrals. So in addition to not buying, I'm also cutting things out. Sometime last week I cut my collection of blue and green shadows in half - tossing the rest out in the trash. I even dumped kitty litter in the trash over them to prevent me from digging them out like a mad woman. Also that week, I gifted a rather large box of cosmetics to an online friend (hope you love it!). I knew that if I kept them in the house I'd eventually talk myself into keeping them forever, so out they went. The only makeup purchases I've made since then have been the 3 MSFs from the BBR collection:
Since I'm in the process of leaving bright eyeshadows behind, I've had to find small ways of forcing color into my life. First of all, for the bright eyeshadows I do have, I'm only using them as accenting colors to a neutral eye - for example, Satin Taupe on the lid, with a hint of Humid or Naval in the outer third. Another way of adding in color is in nail polish. While I've always been a polish addict, I've now taken it to a new extreme and change my polish at least once every other day. Here are some of my recent nails:
Finally, the best thing about this No Buy is that I'm using my stuff up. Here's the latest thing that I've "hit pan" on:
I've been using Smith's Rosebud Salve to help sooth winter skin and cuticles with great success. I can't even tell you how proud I am of myself for (nearly) using something up!
The End is Near: MAC is having a sale! Topic: MAC and MSFs
So apparently, times are tough for everyone and, just as apparently, MAC can't sell their holiday collection sets, so they're selling 'em at 25% off at Nordstroms and MAC. This.never.happens. Is it 2012 already?
Here's the truly sad part - even at 25% I'm still not tempted to buy these things.
Here are a couple of things that just came in the mail - a Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver and Northern Light MSF. Not for nothing, but I'm totally more excited about the Sonic Screwdriver which doubles as a torch (flashlight). Dorks of the world unite!
