The Art of Shaving's Shaving Cream
Topic: Hair Removal
Yes, it is for men. Yes, it is overpriced. Yes, you still need to give it a try. Although the Art of Shaving is a company devoted to mens' needs, this wonderfully lathering product is simply too good to leave to the lesser gender. While it comes in various "flavors," the Lavendar Oil for Sensitive Skin smells beautiful and feels super moisturizing in the shower. Most important to me, it doesn't cause any of that stinging that I get when shaving my legs. What started out as a sample, quickly became a staple - especially during this season of shirts and sundresses. The Art of Shaving line is carried by both Sephora and Macys, but PLEASE check your local TJMaxx or Marshalls first as I've seen them there as well.

Bikini Zone
Topic: Hair Removal
Seeing as how it is swimsuit season, I'm doing more and more reviews on Hair Removal products. Bikini Zone is meant to be used on...ahem...delicate areas where you probably don't want burning liquid products (Tend Skin or No Bump) running around wildly. The container reads that it is a "medicated creme," but I can only describe it as as sticky, gross gel. You are meant to put it on immediately after shaving or waxing, but I actually find this product works best when used a few hours after shaving and then again when hair starts to grow back. The main ingredient is 2% Lidocaine, which is actually just something used to numb the skin. If you've ever had surgery, you may have been prescribed a stronger % of it. As a matter of fact, if you're getting waxed, you may want to put this on before you go in. All in all, it was a pretty good deal - no complaints. I picked this up at Target for $7, money well spent in my opinion!

GiGi's Calming Balm
Topic: Hair Removal
Gigi's Calming Balm is part of a two piece set that includes a horrible delipatory available at Sally's Beauty Supply. I won't even review the hair removal lotion. It was so bad in terms of effectiveness that it warrants little of my time. Suffice it to say, to get it to really work, you have to leave it on long enough to burn - I tossed it out ages ago. Instead, the real star in the duo ended up being the Calming Balm. If No Bump and Tend Skin had a soothing aspect, it would be this. You aren't meant to use these as a post hair removal stand alone treatment - it won't stop any continued bumping or ingrown hairs you already have - but if you tend to rash up or have stinging sensations after removing hair or find Tend Skin and No Bump too harsh, GiGi's Calming Balm is your first and best line of defense. My Sally's does not offer this as a stand alone product, but I understand that some do. I've also seen these on ebay and Amazon, so be sure to check there if you're in the market for such an item. The full set from Sally's ran less than $8 on sale, well worth buying the duo just to get the Calming Balm!

No Bump Skin Treatment
Topic: Hair Removal
To prevent ingrown hairs and bumping after removal (shaving and waxing), I usually use Tend Skin and have had great success with it. While in Sally's sometime ago, I puchased this to see if it works just as well. The No Bump does a good job of preventing bumping, but unlike the Tend Skin, they recommend using it 3 - 4 days before hair removal to ensure protection. Heaven forbid you have a random stray hair that needs plucking... Still, I had no adverse reactions and the smell was not as strong as the Tend Skin, a definite plus. Also in its favor is the price. An 8oz bottle of Tend Skin runs you $30, but a 4oz bottle of No Bump is just $4 - about $2 cheaper per oz! This product is full of alcohols and salicylic acid so I wouldn't recommend it for dryer skins, but everyone else should definately give it a try!

Best Skin Saver Ever!
Topic: Hair Removal
I got this little gem as part of a sample pack from Sephora about a month or so ago. The potion is meant to act as a skin smoother post hair removal of any kind: shaving, waxing, threading, electrolysis , etc and it works so well that it has become a Must Buy Product in The World's Dresser book. It has prevented any of the bumping, itching, redness and other skin irritations I usually get after hair removal - without leaving a crazy annoying scent behind.
The most important thing? It prevents the formation of ingrown hairs! As soon as this runs out, I'm buying the full size which, mind you, is amazingly cheap. From Sephora's Site you can get a 4oz bottle for $20 and an 8oz bottle for $35.
