Baking Storage!
Topic: Stash

My mother owns an antique shop and every few weeks, I like to stroll through to see what I can grab.  This trip, I found a few cast iron muffin pots from the 1930s and I thought they'd make cute cubbies for frequently used items.  Maybe not the most practical thing, but super adorable!

5 Things Everyone Should Own
Topic: Stash
The beauty about beauty is that is all very personal.  When we buy makeup, we only pick up things that work for us.  There are, however, 5 things I think everyone should own.

1. Nail Polish Thinner: Retailing for less than $2 a bottle, polish thinner can save you a ton of money in the long run.  Over time, some polishes tend to thicken up to the point of becoming unusable.  By adding 2 or 3 drops of this to a polish, I can revive it back to its original texture.  Unlike using nail polish remover this does not damage the integrity of the original consistency.

2. Sunblock: Scientists propose that nearly 80% of wrinkles come from sun damage.  Even if you're only in the sun while driving in your car from Points A to B, it has an effect.  The American Association of Dermatology recommends using a broad spectrum (check the label for this wording) everyday with an minimum SPF of 15.  Keep in mind that any SPF over 50+ is essentially junk and filler and in the EU and Australia, it is now illegal to market any sunscreen claiming to have such high SPFs.  Here's a quick and easy to read page on choosing one that works for you.

3. Skin Tone Blush:  Find at least one matte blush that is the color of your skin.  If you ever go overboard with your regular colored blush, adding this on top can tone it down without making it look cakey.

4. Soft Pencil Liner:  Gels and liquids are great, but for tightlining that lasts, you can't beat a creamy pencil liner.  I recommend Mally, Clinique, Besame and Lancome.

5. Skin Tone Cream Eyeshadow with Shimmer: For an easy, non messy natural look, you can put some of this on with your fingers everyday.  Two I love are Laura Mercier and Paint Pots (pictured).

Nail Rack
Topic: Stash
Proper nail bottle storage racks start at around $25 plus $10 shipping - way too much.  I found these spice racks at Walmart for $3 and each rack has three tiers holding a total of 40-50 polishes. You could buy a small fleet of these at minimal cost. So you can get an idea of the size, here is the rack holding my most requently used polishes:

Eyeshadow Palette Purge
Topic: Stash
A few posts down, I noted that I've been trying to cut down on my personal use stash. Here is the before picture of my eyeshadow palettes:

and here is the after pic:

as you can see, I've knocked it down to colors I can wear daily and wear with anything.  I haven't touched my eyeshadows that are still in the original pots since, for the most part they are all neutral colors (I'll take pics later on). Most of my brights have joined the choir invisible.  Next week, I'll take a pic of my updated (and much purged) pigment collection.  As for blush, well, yeah....I'm not touching those.  I love blush, blush loves me and there's no way I can kill that part of my collection.

Most adorable packaging ever - Besame Cosmetics!
Topic: Stash

Adorable no?  I found about about Besame on MUA and decided to order from them on a whim.  I had, in truth, no idea about the complete and total awesomness that was about to come into my mail box.  The packaging has an Art Deco on the cusp of the 1930s feel and is something you'd expect to see held in a silent black and white film.

The products themselves are just as awesome.  Be sure to check out my upcoming youtube video to see what's inside!
