Correctionist Purifying Milky Cleanser
Topic: Clean|Removers
Correctionist Purifying Milky Cleanser is actually a product of parent company Ardell - yeah, the lash guys. The box claims that it removes all traces of makeup while "detoxifying and oxygenating the skin." 2 huge goals - let's break them apart... Removing Makeup: FAIL! This cannot remove basic powder, let alone foundation. I had to scrub and scrub and scrub to get the makeup off. Even then, a good deal of it still showed up on my cotton round after using toner. "Detoxifying and oxygenating the skin": Ok, uh...well... it does have Detoxyl and Shea Butter - both of which repain skin damage and increase cell turnover so in that sense your face is renewed. It certainly feels good and would be an awesome cleanser...if it only cleansed. So what to do? If you have the extra cash, head over to Sally's Beauty Supply and pick up a bottle. Its a very refreshing wash (only AFTER removing makeup and cleansing with something else). Otherwise, just stay away. One final note, this does nothing for oily skins, but for mature and drier skins, this is wonderfully moisturizing!

Remedy Alchemy Cleansing Milk and Toner
Topic: Clean|Removers
Sometime ago, I was able to get testers of these two items and finally had the time to try them out. Even though these are costly (around $44 USD), I found them totally worthless. The cleanser itself is a joke. After rubbing for a good 3 minutes, I still didn't feel clean. There was no lather, nor any thick gel - just off white goo that didn't seem to do the job. This was confirmed when I went for the equally lackluster lotion. I'll give the toner points because it I didn't burn or sting, but it also didn't do a good job of cleaning up the crap that the cleanser left behind. When it was all said and done, I felt like all I'd accomplished was to move the makeup on my face around. Frustrated, I followed up with my regular toner and discovered large traces of color still coming off. I'm not sure who this is for, other than women who don't wear makeup or women who don't sweat. These are pointless items - do.not.buy!

Phisoderm Gel Facial Wash
Topic: Clean|Removers
Phisodermn Anti Blemish Gel Facial Wash is one of the few pH balanced facials washes out there. The bottle's tagline reads that it "clears up blemishes for a radiant, balanced complexion," and well, no wonder, the main ingredient is 2% salicylic acid. Because of the salicylic acid, you probably wouldn't need to use a prewash, even if you wear the strongest of sunscreens. BUT, also because of the salicylic acid, I think it would overdry your skin to use it in the morning and afternoon. I have super, super oily skin and even I find it a trial to use this when I first wake up. Instead, I've been throwing this in my gym bag for use after working out or after coming home at the end of a hot day. This stuff is serious business and is best used when your face has been put through the ringer in terms of weather or exercise. I've found this to be a great, cheap buy and a wonderful addition to my skincare arsenal. You can find pHisoderm at any drugstore for under $10 a bottle.

Review: Pond's Clean Sweep Wet Cleansing Towelettes
Topic: Clean|Removers
I'm all about saving money, but buying this is not the way to do it. This product claims to "leave skin perfectly clean and makeup free, including waterproof mascara," but, no. While this works great for removing powder foundations and mineral makeup - it does nothing for those who wear chemical sunscreens nor for folks who wear heavy liquid foundation. As for waterproof mascara - still a no. It requires several swipes and by the time you're done, you'll have lost a couple of lashes in the process. If you're not wearing sunscreen (you should!) and if you're not wearing liquid foundations, this would be great for changing makeup in the afternoon before going out again. Otherwise, I'd advise you to stay away. Now I know this is a popular product and I may catch a lot of heat for posting this review, but I just didn't feel clean with it. There are some positives - these are extremely cheap and readily available at local drugstores. They don't cause breakouts and are safe for sensitive skins. They are also also alcohol and oil free. Finally, I happen to really like the textured feel of the cloths. In fact, I'd be willing to buy these cloths free of product to use with my regular cleanser. Its been suggested that I try other Pond's wipes (they have several varieties) and I will. These in particular however, will have no place on my makeup shelf.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser
Topic: Clean|Removers
Fresh is by far one of the coolest stores to go into. Its an experience and a promise of future adventure for your face and body. If you've never been, its an old style perfumery with scents, bath items, candles and makeup. One product that I'd been wanting to try for some time was their Soy Face Cleanser, billed as being extra gentle and formulated for not only cleaning the face, but also removing makeup and eyewear. As I wear sunscreen daily, I prefer to pre cleanse before using a regular cleaner to ensure that I don't go to bed with pore clogging chemicals left behind. I was nervous to try this one step with Fresh, but I will say that it did a remarkable job of cleaning (most) everything off. It removed my foundation as well as my spf. +1 point It didn't do such a good job around the eye area though. When using Too Faced Shadow Insurance as a primer, Fresh just couldn't cut though it. Still, I'm actually ok with that - its more of a testimony to TFSI than a negative against Fresh. -0 points The Soy Face Cleanser is recommended for all skin types and (per the packaging) has an insane amount of soy proteins "packed with protein-building amino acids and anti-oxidants. It sounds like a really great product and for the most part it is. +1 pt There's just one little thing... ...The Smell! Remember the David Bowie movie, The Labryinth? There was one place that every character feared the most - The Bog of Eternal Stench. I went there and this Soy Face Cleanser took me. This stuff reeks of grim death. It is meant to smell of cucumbers and soy, but it is so overpowering that it makes me gasp for air. I hate it and its a shame, because it really is one of the best products on the market. - 8,000 points If you can handle the smell, and I imagine some folks can, get it. A 150 mL tube costs $38, but a small dab is enough to clean your whole face and the tube will last forever. If you don't have a Fresh store near you, you can pick it up from Sephora.com. Good luck though, and consider yourself warned.

Review: Skin Essentials Eye Makeup Remover
Topic: Clean|Removers
I'm going to speak ill of this, but before I do, I have to stress that it was only $3. Skin Essentials Eye Makekup Remover can be found at Walgreens in their skincare, not makeup, section (I found a stack of them stuck in between Nivea lotion). Whatever. On a mission to prove myself wrong after the whole Covergirl remover fiasco, I decided to give drugstore removers one more try. I have to say that it didn't match up to my Clinique Take the Day Off Balm: I had to fully saturate the cotton ball and press it on the eyelid for about 10-15 seconds to have it remove product. You can forget trying to use it waterproof mascaras, though it will cut though e/s primer and paint pots after a couple of swipes. All in all - it was JUST like MAC Pro Makeup Remover. Yep. MAC's gel based eyemake up remover is really good, but there's no difference between MAC's water based (Pro) makeup remover and the Skin Essentials. To be fair MAC's does smell a bit better, but man - for the price difference, you really can't beat it.

Review: Covergirl Clean
Topic: Clean|Removers
Don't buy this. Just...don't. Seriously. I had an emergency* and needed to quickly change my look on the go. I popped into the local grocery store, grabbed this and went to work. 800 years later, still in the car, I was still scrubbing. This stuff is horrible. No wonder it was only 2 dollars, it's crap. Covergirl Clean has a strange milky/lotion texture and an even stranger preschool-paste smell. It didn't remove my eye makeup, but rather just moved things around. The formula was so bad, that I ended up going home anyway, just to fix the mess it made. This stuff heads straight to the trash bin. From now on I'm transferring my regular remover into a small container and keeping it in the glove box as backup. *Read as: needing to go out with friends after work.
